Coconut Lagoon - 4* PO Box 2, Kumarakom, Kumarakom, INDIA, 686583
The resort offers 14 Heritage Mansions and 28 Heritage Bungalows both air-conditioned and non-air conditioned. Though some of the cottages are of more recent vintage, many are well over a century old and a few actually date back to the early 1700s. However, they feature ultramodern bathrooms, each located in an inner courtyard boasting its own banana tree.
The restaurant is as renowned for its superb Kerala cuisine (vegetarian and non vegetarian alike) as for its authentic setting--it is the oldest structure at Coconut Lagoon. It is mentioned in Arundhati Roy's Booker Prize-winning best-seller, The God of Small Things.
Kumarakom is the ideal place to experience Kerala's famous backwaters, comprising of vast lakes and a system of narrow canals and waterways linking them. Not so long ago, these waterways served as the backbone of Kerala's transportation.
It is located 10 kilometers from Kottayam, 78 kilometers from Cochin. There is a direct ferry from Casino Hotel, Cochin, or travel half-way by road and take the ferry from Tanneermukkam jetty or Kumarakom.
